URBAN CLIMATE INSTITUTE · SPATIAL ANALYSIS

Zadar in three
dimensions.

Our interactive map connects surface temperature, vegetation, terrain and potential surface-runoff pathways. From the peninsula to Musapstan, switch between layers and explore their spatial relationships.

01

Heat · LST

Five summer 2026 observations and a median layer. A shared colour scale supports more consistent comparisons over time.

02

Vegetation · NDVI

Sentinel-2, 2 August 2026, on a 10 m grid. It indicates vegetation, not tree counts or canopy health.

03

Terrain and 3D space

Orthophotography, terrain, footprints and modelled building and canopy volumes help relate the layers in space.

04

Water · surface runoff

An initial terrain-based model of possible runoff pathways, including D8 and MFD routing and modelled depressions.

EXPLORE THE LAYERS

One location.
Several questions.

Start with the peninsula or Musapstan. Switch on heat, then vegetation, and look for corresponding patterns. When comparing dates, use a common temperature scale: stretching the colours can change the impression without changing measured values.

Hydrology asks a different question: which way might surface water travel according to the available terrain model? It is a starting point for site investigation, alongside checks of the actual ground and drainage network.

What is measured and what is modelled?

The linked viewer is version 11 of the Zadar map. LST dates are 9 and 24 July and 2, 10 and 26 August 2026. The median requires at least four valid observations per pixel. The LST output grid is 30 m; native thermal resolution is approximately 100 m. This is not air temperature or a measurement of individual façades.

Terrain uses an older DGU model at approximately 20 m, resampled to 30 m for display, with Copernicus filling gaps. It is not a 1 m LiDAR model. Most building heights are schematic and canopy heights are estimates; the scene is not a surveyed 3D city.

Hydrology lines are modelled pathways, not surveyed watercourses. Rainfall, infiltration, karst groundwater and the drainage network are not included. Contributing area is not water volume, and depressions are not flood-depth estimates.

Sources, dates and assumptions are documented in the map’s “Podaci i metoda” panel. Sources and development notes in Croatian.
